Klean-Prep™ is a balanced electrolyte solution
containing polyethylene glycol 3350, sodium sulphate,
potassium chloride, sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate.
The iso-osmotic solution has been found to have very
little net absorption or secretion of electrolytes from
the bowel.
The sodium sulphate inhibits net sodium absorption
and the other electrolytes prevent net absorption or
secretion of other ions so that patients can ingest
the large quantities required for bowel cleansing without
significant changes in water or electrolyte balance.
