Rivex Pharma is the drug distribution division
of Helix BioPharma Corp. (“Helix” or “Helix BioPharma”). Rivex Pharma has its own drug registrations
and acts as Canadian distributor for a variety of European
and American pharmaceutical companies. Rivex Pharma provides
regulatory and clinical services for these companies
as well as a full complement of sales, marketing and
logistics activities.
Gastroenterology is a key therapeutic area for Rivex Pharma with products for bowel lavage as well as a natural bulk
forming laxative. The area of Immunology presents opportunities for Rivex Pharma as there is increasing focus
on immunomodulatory drugs as a possible way to treat
immune based diseases such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
and Fibromyalgia. These therapeutic segments offer an
ideal niche opportunity for Rivex Pharma to promote its
products.
Osteoarthritis is another major focus for Rivex Pharma. Conventional treatment methods such as
weight loss, pain medication, and intra-articular
steroids simply mask the pain caused by osteoarthritis.
ORTHOVISC® and now MONOVISC™ represent safe, convenient, nonsurgical treatments for the pain associated with osteoarthritis.
Rivex Pharma’s daily operations are managed by William (Bill) Chick, Vice President Product Distribution for Helix. From 1995 through to its amalgamation with Helix in 2008, Rivex PHarma was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Helix with the name Rivex Pharma Inc. Previously, Bill Chick was President of Rivex Pharma Inc. He joined Rivex Pharma Inc. in 1997 as Vice President Sales and Marketing. From 1985 to 1997, Mr. Chick worked in the sales and marketing departments and was director of marketing for Allergan Canada, an international pharmaceutical company specializing in eye care. From 1977 to 1985, he held various sales and marketing positions at Hydron Canada, a soft contact lens manufacturer. Mr. Chick holds a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Toronto.
